- Years ago, the late Lourdes V. Flores shared to us her vision of a “paluwagan” dedicated to the younger generation of Cavintinians. She spoke openly about a formation of group for the purpose of promoting camaraderie. She approached people she believes has the resources and potential leadership qualities to spearhead the group. Sad to say it did not come to reality. No one is ready to accept responsibilities.
- Two years later fall of 2003, a strong calling from our fellow Cavintinians to organize a group came forth. Inspired by our common belief of community service and spirit of “bayanihan” a meeting was held in Mississauga attended by original members of 11 families. A decision was made to hold an election of executive officers on December of 2003 and launch paluwagan '04 the following year.
- As the formation of the group progressed, organizational issues were encountered. Matters such as the type of organization to establish, objectives and basis of unity, resources and recruitment were all carefully taken in to account and resolved. After countless hours of meetings and deliberations, a milestone in the history of the group was accomplished. On August of 2004, the first draft of organization By-Laws was presented to the members and unanimously ratified the same year. Thus CaSaMa was born, different committees were created and recruitment started.
CaSaMa stands for “Cavinti Sama-samang Magtulungan”.
- An association conceived and founded based on the basic principle derived from tagalog word “Tumulong at Magtulungan”. It has elected its officers, laid out a program of activities and formulated its own By-laws that serve as the organization's fundamental guide. In the past 2 years despite of limited resources and manpower, CaSaMa was able to support Cavintians Cultural Activities in Toronto. It has also provided assistance to our sick "kababayan" and donated funds to victims of natural calamities.
- To date, CaSaMa membership has grown from 11 families to 30. Dedication and perseverance of the members made our goals realistic and attainable. By setting our priorities into a perspective in line with our objectives, CaSaMa was able to make a difference. Aside from the serious business of running fund raising for our ongoing and future projects, CaSaMa has successfully hosted numerous activities. Annual summer camping, Yearly"Visita Iglesia" and Christmas caroling, paluwagan and etc. to mention a few.
- CaSaMa is looking forward to being a duly registered non-profit organization before the end of 2005.
